French Grammar Games | A digital language-learning game site

Project Description: This is an online, digital language-learning game collection for learners of French. The games, designed by a French professor at Middlebury College, are created to support an advanced grammar course by providing additional, fun practice opportunities. Each game treats a specific French grammar point and invites the learner to play and compete in a low-stakes, self-study environment.

Design: This space is built with a full-installation of WordPress and designed in partnership with a faculty member in the French Department at Middlebury College. Design highlights include digital grammar games organized into three categories: Sentence Whiz, featuring games to learn about questions, negations, relative pronouns, active and passive voice; Word Nerd, featuring games to support the learning of nouns, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, possessives, and prepositions; and Verb Challenge, featuring games to help learners master past, present, and future tenses, as well as conditional, subjunctive, imperatives, and infinitives.

Additional Features: In addition to language game sets, this space includes a guide which provides the learner with several different pathways to use the site such as an interactive table of contents organizing games into grammar categories for additional study. Each game is created using visuals and audio to support student learning as well as to enable users to track progress as they work through the learning site. The grammar game site also makes use of icon and color identification so as to enable ease of navigation through the learning activities. A pointing system within activities allows learners to keep track of their efforts and compete against themselves to the extent they choose to do so.
